UPDATE! Sailing in Gay Games Paris 2018

Literally, just as typing was underway to share the latest news on sailing in the Paris 2018 Gay Games, an email with even more information buzzed in...here is the latest as of April 9, 2017, in both French & English...some exciting news!  Read below and stay tuned for SFST discussions about competing in Paris!
 

Hello / Bonjour

As you know Sailing is one of the few sports not yet opened for the coming Gaygames at Paris in August 2018 / Comme vous le savez la Voile est un des quelques sports pas encore ouverts pour les prochains Gaygames à Paris en août 2018.

The situation is currently as follows / La situation est actuellement la suivante : 

PLAN A

The option to sail on Dart16s, or other small boats, on a lake near Paris is NOT possible. Despite the support of the FFV, the French Federation of Sailing, it was not possible to find the fleet required for the event / L'option de naviguer sur des Dart16, ou d'autres bateaux légers, sur un lac proche de Paris est caduque. Malgré le support de la Fédération Française de Voile, il a été impossible de trouver la flotte nécessaire à l'événement.

PLAN B

We are now working with the LVN (Ligue de Voile de Normandie), the regional FFV organisation in Normandy, on the following event / Nous travaillons actuellement avec la LVN, Ligue de Voile de Normandie, sur l'événement suivant :

* Races in Le Havre, at the mouth of the Seine river and 180 km West of Paris

* Courses au Havre, à l'embouchure de la Seine et 180 km à l'ouest de Paris

 

* Location: for the 1st time ever in the Gaygames races will take place on the open sea

* Plan d'eau: pour la 1ère fois aux Gaygames les courses auraient lieu en pleine mer 

 

* Boats: Up to 20 J80s and 20 First 7.5s, with crews of 5 people each, ie 200 participants

* Bateaux: Jusqu'à 20 J80 et 20 First 7.5, équipage de 5 chacun, soit 200 participants

 

* Only 1 group per type of boat and category (competitive/J80s and recreational/First 7.5s)

* 1 seul groupe par catégorie (competition/J80 et loisir/First 7.5)

 

* 2 days of races for everyone, dates to be confirmed

* 2 jours de compétition pour tous, dates à confirmer

All other days will be free to participate to other Gaygames events in Paris, or if you prefer to go to Le Havre for training before the races.

Tous les autres jours seront disponibles pour participer aux autres événements Gaygames à Paris, sauf si vous choisissez d'aller au Havre pour vous entrainer avant les courses

NEXT STEPS

Discussions are in progress with the LVN to finalize the organization and budget. We hope to confirm soon the opening of  registration for Sailing at Paris 2018./ Les discussions sont en-cours avec la LVN pour finaliser l'organisation et le budget. Nous espérons confirmer prochainement l'ouverture des inscriptions pour la Voile à Paris 2018.
