The opportunity to sail in Sydney, Australia in the first sailing regatta of the Gay Games was one not to be missed!

Katharine Holland and Kip Darcy heard that there would be sailing at the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney, Australia...this would be the first time in Games history the sport of sailing would be offered. As friends and sailors, in 2000 they put the call out to invite LGBT sailors and other interested folks to meet and discuss starting a team.

Our team had humble beginnings as a collection of sailors with all different skill levels and experience, coached by our own Jan Crosbie-Taylor and Sallie Lang.  In the end, 30 people from San Francisco competed in the two fleets offered, recreational and spinnaker divisions.  Two of our teams made it into the Spinnaker Division finals and Carpe Cerevisium took the silver.

There have been SF Sailing Team members competing in every Gay Games since!
